Today our brewery can be counted among the largest craft beer production sites in the world due to its natural fermentation process.
Built over 50 years ago, in 1970, as one of many beer factories part of Ceausescu’s plan to make Romania a large beer producer, our brewery was initially equipped with large horizontal tanks with a total capacity of 200.000 hl /year.
We can safely assume his wish was that this industrial size factory, located strategically near the border, produce a beer that would compete with international brands in quality.
His ambition was clear, as in 1978 the government further invested in this factory doubling production capacity to 450.000 hl/year.
In time, after 1989, the brewery found it could not compete with modern and efficient industry standard: the short-term fermentation method, and eventually closed its doors in 2012.
However, quality tends to come back in fashion.
HB Traditional Brewery recognized the potential of the factory and the importance of the local craft beer tradition, and without hesitance rehired the old staff back – Master Beer craftsmen with over 30 years of experience, and restarted production.
Today our brewery can be counted among the largest craft beer production sites in the world due to its natural fermentation process.
We produce the finest lager using a two phase process of bottom fermentation in horizontal tanks.
„To ensure constant quality we use our own ingredients whenever possible, such as our own water source and malt production, and together with the ingenuity of our Master Beer Craftsmen, and the care of our staff, the result is a balanced and harmonious beer time after time.
We never add anything that nature does not provide by itself, that is why our beers have a naturally produced content of carbon dioxide – just the right amount to create a pleasant bubbly sensation without any of the heaviness.”
